The Symbolic Meaning of the Color Green

Green is another very important color in symbology and in metaphysical use. There are many universal symbolic meanings for green.

When you think of the color green you should think of the green canopy that is created in a forest of broad leaf trees. If you stand beneath that canopy, you are flooded with sunlight that is filtered through green tree leaves. This is the best green light in which you can bathe yourself. It is rich in powers of vigorous life, regeneration and healing. Because of these symbolic qualities, green is a Feminine Lunar Symbol.

Green is symbolic of springtime, freshness and hope. When green symbolizes hope, it represents the faith that things will improve after a period of adversity in the same fashion as the renewal of flowers and plants after the cold, harsh winter season ends each year. In this way, it symbolizes rebirth, renewal and immortality.

In the west, green also symbolizes money, prosperity and wealth. Any ritual that is performed to attract money should employ the color green. For example, in a Feng Shui ritual, you place a green dollar bill under a red object in the prosperity corner of your house. The red activates your intention and the green indicates the desired result of the ritual. The ritual is meant to activate the flow of money to you.

When I guide my clients through a meditation session, I always have them visualize green light bathing every part of their body.  The green light is soothing and healing. Many of my clients come out of a meditation session feeling unusually relaxed and energized. That is the power of green.

We still have many more colors to discuss in this series of posts on the symbolic meanings of colors.
