For many years I did not understand the real importance of the vibrational influence of numbers until I met my partner, John Scarano. John is Master Numerologist with over 40 years of experience in Numerology and other metaphysical arts. Through him I gained a deeper understanding of numerical vibration. It has increased my understanding of number symbols when I receive them for a client in a psychic vision.

John does not use software to perform his chart calculations and he doesn’t use one to interpret them, either. He believes, as did famous Numerologist, Juno Jordan, that a Numerologist must see the entire “Dance of the Numbers”. John uses the Pythagorean System of Numerology to interpret Numerology charts for his clients. Juno Jordan’s book, Numerology, the Romance in Your Name is a good manual for those who are new to Numerology. It lays down most of the basics of each calculation and its interpretation.

There are 3 calculations in Numerology chart that are considered core calculations. They have the most influence over us. The first is the Destiny calculation, followed by the Birth Force calculation and the Heart’s Desire Number. I have already given instruction on the Destiny and Birth Force number calculations and interpretations in my post on Defining the Master Number 11 in Numerology.

The Heart’s Desire Number is the 3rd  important core number. It is calculated by adding all of the vowels in your name together and reducing the total to a simple number from 1 to 9. This core number is sometimes referred to as the Soul’s Urge. I like that title better because it explains itself in the title. Since the soul cannot experience in the physical realm it couples with a spirit and a physical body. It gains desired experience from the physical realm through those 2 entities. I believe that we set all the circumstances of each lifetime prior to our birth in order to propel us towards the settling of important Karma. That settling of Karma is what is most important for the soul in each lifetime. When the Heart’s Desire Number is fulfilled we are filled with pleasure, joy and satisfaction. It gives our lives a sense of direction when we interpret the Heart’s Desire Number.

When all of the the consonants contained in each of our birth names are added together and reduced, we get what is called the Karmic Debt Number. This number  gives us a clue as to where our most important Karma lay. This, however, is a general marker because Karma can only be extinguished by our own free will. This calculation gives us a hint to the general area of important Karma for us.

The emergence of the the simple number 9 created beginnings and endings for us. As a result we are always somewhere in a 9-year cycle. This was determined at birth by our birth date. Each year that we are alive our cycle number changes by 1. This number is calculated by adding your birth month to your birthday and adding it to the current year. This number is known as a Personal Year Number. It is always beneficial to know where you are at in the never-ending cycle of the 9. It is especially important when you are in a 1 or a 9 Personal Year. You can make the best use of those numbers if you are aware of their current influence on you. The Personal Year Number begins to affect us 6 months before and after our birthday.

Juno Jordan knew that all of the individual numbers in your name were important. She called them “The Dance of the Numbers”.  And, so, we calculate how many times each of the simple numbers appear in our birth names. If any number appears more than 3 times in our names we must pay attention to it. Especially if it impacts our core numbers. For example, if you had a Birth Force Number 5 and you had a lot of 5’s in your names it increases the effect that the core number has on you. The more of any number that you have, the stronger the influence. 5, 6 or more of 1 number is very important.

John interprets your Numerology Chart and your Astrological charts in the one session. This creates a dynamic interpretation for you and provides you with a lot of insight. He believes that since the numbers and the planets have a strong influence on us they should be interpreted together in order to give us a bigger picture of the influences that you are vibrating upon. The Master Number 33 is the most influential of all numbers. The 33 combines the 11 and the 22 and elevates their potential to another level. When expressed to the fullest, the 33 lacks all personal ambition and focuses its considerable abilities toward the spiritual uplifting of mankind. What makes the 33 especially impressive is the high level of sincere devotion that is created. This is evidenced in its determination to seek understanding and wisdom before preaching to others. The 33 in full force is extremely rare to find. Some examples of the 33 person are Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Theresa.

Gandhi taught us that physical force and violence were unnecessary to create change. Through his teachings, India gained her independence by employing mass non-violent civil disobedience (Satyagraha) rather than resorting to the usual bloodshed of war to achieve that goal.

Mother Theresa demonstrated extraordinary selflessness in her lifelong quest to reduce the suffering of the poor masses.

Ghandi was not born as a 33. He gained that numerical vibration in this lifetime as a result of his good works. He was born with an 11 first name, an 11 second name and a 7 surname. Totaled together, all 3 of his names add up to an 11. His birth date, 10-02-1989 adds up to a 9. Gandhi was destined to help the masses from birth. His strong 11 influence enabled him to contact the flow of cosmic consciousness and to apply the spiritual knowledge that he received.

Mother Theresa’s middle name adds up to a 33 and the total of her birth date is 9. She, too, was destined to help the masses from birth as indicated by her Birth Force Number. The 33 in her middle name gave her the ability to accomplish her service to mankind.

Neither of these two individuals were perfect. They resided in an imperfect universe and were subject to its imperfection. Mother Theresa questioned her faith many times throughout her lifetime, for example. However, Gandhi and Mother Theresa demonstrated an unusually high level of spirituality that has had a lasting effect long after their passing. This is the mark of the 33 and of the legacy of the 9.

The appearance of a 33 indicates mastery in some esoteric area. The number 33 is most important when found among the core numbers contained in a person’s Numerology Chart. In all other cases, the 33 can be reduced to a 6 while making a note of where it appeared. When it appears in an individual’s first name or a middle name, it indicates that the 33 came from their actions in a prior lifetime. If the 33 appears in the surname this indicates that the mastery was gained through a bloodline and also indicates a strong Karmic connection with the father or with the mother if the surname is hers.

The number 33 is the number of the Master Teacher. It teaches the 11 so that it may progress to the 22. And it teaches the masses, as well.

With this post, I have completed the definition of simple and Master Numbers. Next I will discuss the important calculations that are made on a Numerology Chart.

The 22 is the most powerful of all numbers. The 22 person can turn the most ambitious of dreams into reality. This is potentially the most successful of all numbers. If it is misused, it can also be the most unsuccessful of all numbers, as well.

The 22 has many of the inspirational insights of the 11 and combines it with the practicality and methodical nature of the 4. There is 4 times the power and energy of the 4 in the vibration of the 22. That gives the 22 person 4 times the strength to use on the material plane. This is unlimited, but it must not be used without exercising discipline.

The 22 senses the true archetype and brings it down to earth in some material form. As a result, the 22 person has big ideas, great plans, idealism, leadership and enormous self-confidence.

If not practical, those persons with a 22 will waste their potential. Like the 11, the 22 can easily shrink from ambition which can cause difficult interior pressures. Both the 11 and the 22 experience this pressure-cooker effect very strongly and it usually begins at an early age. The enormous amount of energy that the 22 produces must be expended in order to avoid the chaos that results from its disuse.

It is imperative that the 22 works toward the realization of goals that are larger than personal ambition. It serves the world in a practical way. It is the number of the Master Builder and it teaches practical application to the Apprentice 11.

When the 22 is found in the final Destiny calculation it manifests into charisma. When it lands in the final Birth Force calculation it indicates great skill in any endeavor it chooses to take up. In either position, the 22 person is capable of demonstrating enormous, innate ability in one or more psychic skills. These skills are generally one or more of the following: Clairvoyance (seeing), Clairsentience (knowing), Clairaudience (hearing),  Clairtangence (knowing by touch) and Mediumship (spirit communication).

Lastly, the 22 indicates that the bearer of this number has reincarnated many times and has mastered many important Karmic lessons over the course of those lifetimes. It is one step away from the true and final Master number: the 33. That will be the topic of my next post.

Numerology is the practice of determining the simple numbers that we are most closely associated with and defining the vibrational influence that they have on us during the course of our lives. This is done, in part, by assigning numerical values to the letters of our alphabet in order to determine the simple number that is contained in the sum total of our names at birth.In Pythagorean Numerology, this number is known as our Destiny Number. Here, the term destiny is a misnomer. This number does not indicate what we will become in this lifetime. It indicates what we may become. It indicates our potential destiny.

Here is a graph that shows the value of each letter in our alphabet.. The letters have the numerical value of the numbers that they fall beneath in this graph:

It is important to total each of your birth names separately because one or more of them may add up to a Master Number. Add the sum of each of your birth names and reduce the total to a simple number by adding the compound numbers together. For example: 25 = 2+5=7.

After the Destiny Number has been determined by reducing the final compound number to a simple number we add all of the numbers in our birth date together (convert your birth month into a number, e.g.: January =1 and so on through the rest of the months). The sum total of that number is called the Birth Force Number. This number indicates the tools and talents we were given at birth that will help to propel us towards our potential destiny.

If the total of any of your names, including the total of all your names added together, or your birth date adds up to an 11, 22 or 33 that total is never expressed as a simple number. We do have to remember, however, that these 3 Master Numbers also bear the vibrational quality of the simple number they represent if they were to be reduced to a simple number.

The 11 is the most intuitive of all numbers. It represents illumination, a channel to the subconscious, insight without rational thought, sensitivity, nervous energy, shyness, and impracticality. It is the number of the dreamer. The 11 bears all of the aspects of the number 2. These aspects are enhanced as they become charged with charisma, leadership, and inspiration.

11 is a number with inborn duality that creates dynamism, inner conflict and other catalyses with its mere presence. It is a number that, when not focused on some goal beyond itself, can be turned inward to create fears and phobias.

The 11 walks the edge between greatness and self-destruction. Its potential for growth, stability and personal power lies in the acceptance of intuitive understanding and of spiritual truths. For the 11, peace is not found so much in logic as it is in faith. Most importantly, the 11 is the number of the  Psychic Apprentice who has great intuitive potential. That potential must be fully developed before the 11 can progress to the 22.

The 11 can create rebelliousness in children that subsides with age. This rebelliousness is actually part of the learning curve of the 11. In other children, the 11 can create extreme shyness. This, too, subsides with age as a result of a learning process.

The numeric character 9 brings us to the last of the simple numbers. This is the most powerful of all of the simple numbers. It controls everything in our universe.

The 9 is derived from the calculations: 3 + 3 + 3 or 3 x 3. The latter calculation is often referred to as the Triple Triad. This triad is all-powerful. It triples the power of 3 to create. However, it’s creation can only be achieved through the destruction of the old so that the new may rise up. The 9 is the force behind the Phoenix Bird that rises up from the ashes in a new and wonderful form.

The parable of the Phoenix is symbolic of the fact that nothing in our universe can be destroyed. It can only be transformed. For example, when  a log is burned in a fireplace it is transformed into ashes and smoke. This reminds us that we are not creators. We cannot destroy that which has been created by our Creator.

Without the 9  there would be no change in our universe. That is the sheer beauty of this number. It works in concert with the Principle of Duality. When something ends something new must be created. In this way, the universe carries on without permanent end in magnificent diversity.

When we try to avoid the inevitable change that the 9 forces on us, we unwittingly increase its effect. The lesson of the 9 is that we must learn to bend to it and accept the change that it brings. If we do not, we suffer needlessly. And, often, we are surprised when we finally give into the 9. Its effect on us is rarely as bad as we had imagined it would be. And we did not foresee the positive aspect of the change that it brought with it.

The 9 is the number of completion and contains all of the symbolism of each one of the simple numbers that precede it. The 9 is symbolic of fulfillment, attainment and of the beginning and  end. It is a celestial number, the number of Angels and the number of the Earthly Paradise. It represents the circle in that a circle is divisible into 4-90 degree quarters.

The 9 is also the number of philanthropy and service to mankind. The 9 desires to help multitudes rather than the few. The 9 wants to leave a legacy behind it so that others are reminded of its service to them and will continue to benefit from it.

In my last post I talked about the 8 being the number of Paradise Regained through Karmic Balance. The 9 makes this possible because it gives mankind the ability to end its imperfection and begin anew in the Realm of Perfection. This process is the price to be paid for eating the apple from the Tree of Knowledge.

The 9 is often symbolized as a 9-pointed star. However, the best symbol for it is the triangle within a triangle within a triangle. We have finally reached the source that gives us life. We have reached the cave within the cave and the life-giving spirit that resides there. This is the Spirit of Renewal: the 9.

It is also interesting to note that if we use geometrical figures to symbolize each of the simple numbers we see that they have progressed back to the circle of the Zero! And this is expressed in the first compound number with a Zero: 10. This return is expressed each time we reach multiples of 10 as in 20, 30, 40, et cetera. This indicates that there is unity in our universe.

This finishes the definition of the simple numbers. However, we are not quite finished with numbers yet. There are 3 compound numbers in Numerology that are very important.  They are known as the Master Numbers. These are the 11, 22 and 33. I will begin to define them in my next post, beginning with the Master Number 11.

The creation of the 8 brings to us all of the things that are necessary to sustain life in the physical world. The 8 is derived from the addition of 4 + 4. As a result, it takes on double the power of the 4. This gives the 8 double-grounding and kick-starts the flow of all of the material things that our planet Earth provides to us. The only problem with this is that it creates a flow that both comes and goes. As quickly as the abundance flows in, it flows out with the same speed. This creates a challenge for us. Learning to manage, share and save some of the material things that come in is essential to prevent the blockage of that flow.

Greed, ego, power-mongering and selfishness are some good examples of traits that will block the 8 flow.  This occurs because the 8 is the number of Karma and carries within it the Universal Law of Truth, that is ’cause and effect’ which states that ‘as you reap, so shall you sow’. We cannot re-enter the realm of perfection until our Karma has achieved equilibrium. We will have be no more positive than we are negative. That is true Karmic Balance.

The numeric character 8 is often associated with wealth and power in Numerology. When people seek a name change it is very likely that they want to add the vibrational influence of 8 to their name in order to increase their earning power. It isn’t that simple, however, because there is more to the 8 than money flowing into your coffers. The 8 desires harmony and balance. When that is not present it fails to generate abundance and these negative traits can actually create a reverse flow of abundance. The abundance created by the 8 is not always monetary, either. It can bring with it an abundance of love, brotherhood and wisdom, as well.

The 8 is also is the number of Paradise regained. This is important because it appears immediately before the 9 (This will be explained in my next post about the numeric character 9).  It also represents pairs of opposites.

Most importantly, the 8 represents regeneration, resurrection and perfect rhythm. If you lay the figure 8 on its side, you will discover that it is the symbol for infinity. This is symbolic of a never-ending flow.

Some good symbols for the 8 is a square on top of another square or a circle on top of another circle. The 8 is best symbolized by the octagon and is considered to be the transition of the square into a circle. With the addition of the 8 into the simple numbers we now have been given all that is essential for us physically and spiritually in our plane of existence. This is especially true when it comes to regaining our original state of perfection. That is the goal of  8 Karma.
